About this course

This Equine Behaviour & Psychology course will provide you with in-depth knowledge, and an understanding of, how your horse thinks, behaves, and responds to training. You will gain an overview of how the horse learns, and how his brain differs from the human brain.

This course looks at the problems and behaviours specifically surrounding the ridden horse. Understanding how the horse moves in order that he may remain as close to his natural self as possible, and, as such, prevent injury, is immensely important so we will be looking at the fundamentals of biomechanics, dentistry and hoof balance; examining the basics of saddle fit, bridle fit and how all of these things, along with certain riding habits, can positively and negatively influence the horse.

The Course contains the following

Modules:

Module One: How the Brain Works

Module Two: Equine Biomechanics

Module Three: Saddlery

Module Four: The Importance of Hoof Care

Module Five: Dentistry

Module Six: Challenging Behaviours in the Ridden Horse

Throughout this course there are interactive quizzes to consolidate your learning.

Your course tutor: Viki

The course author, Viki Sheppard, has a wealth of experience having worked with a variety of horses, and has learnt from a wide range of horse behaviour experts from Pat Parelli, Bruce Logan, Ray Hunt, Mark Rashid, and Richard Maxwell to name a few. "People often refer to me as a ‘Horse Whisperer’ and I’ve even been called ‘Organic’, but whatever you like to call it, I think of it as working with the whole horse – mentally, emotionally, physically & spiritually. I work with an open mind, open heart and open hand with every horse I meet, whether it is to develop their ridden potential, resolve problematic behaviour or to rebuild a loss of confidence, which is also a common factor applicable to humans. It is essential that we understand how the horse learns and what makes him ‘tick’ in order to get the best from him and help him integrate more confidently into the human world and become your trusted partner.

Awareness paves the way for change."
